Salt Lake City and The Great Salt Lake

We visited this area on Friday, June 11. In our usual fashion, we left the RV Park at the crack of noon and arrived in SLC at 1 PM. We visited the Mormon Temple Square. The actual Temple is under construction in a major effort that will last 4 years. There were many other Mormon buildings in the area that were beautiful with tons of flowers and landscaping. We also went to the City Creek Mall which is huge and has a creek running through the entire inside/outside mall, the water supplied by a nearby mountain. This mall seems to be thriving unlike most malls in the US.

The Temple Square Area

The City Creek Mall - There are over 100 stores and restaurants right in the center of the city.

At 5 PM we drove the 45 miles northwest to Antelope Island State Park in the Great Salt Lake

The Great Salt Lake is the largest lake west of the Mississippi and is too salty to support most aquatic species. It has a beautiful flat, mirror like surface. Antelope Island (28,022 acres) is the largest island in Great Salt Lake and home to free roaming herds of bison, mule deer and pronghorn antelope. In the last photo below we watched as people way below us walked a trail toward a bison. When they finally saw him they made a hasty detour.
