We drove the 19 mile official Pike's Peak highway to the summit at 14,115 feet. It was scary at times, guardrails are only used on the sharp switchbacks. On the way back down there is a gate and each vehicle's brakes are checked by official looking rangers from the NPS. At least the road is paved. When my mom and dad drove up and down the highway in the 90's most of it was a dirt road, and they drove a large sedan, not a Jeep.
